SCIENCE REINFORCEMENT PROGRAMME


Shenton Institute of Pure Science has been founded in 2005 by Mr Mohummad Shakeel Luckhoo, Chemistry teacher since 1993. This is a result of his increasing commitment to his profession. The institute is non-profit making and self-funding.


The main goal of the institute is to empower students with relevant IT skills and resources to study Science and to consequently become self-directed and independent learners.


Several activites have already been organised:

2005: Conferences at the Cyber Tower, University of Mauritius & Mauritius Institute of Education

2006: Crash course - Science Reinforcement Programme
(SRP) at the Cyber Tower

2007: Full course - SRP at IVTB House, Phoenix

Presentations at Souillac, Surinam & Chemin Grenier

2008: Full course - SRP at IVTB House, Phoenix & Surinam

2009: Full course - SRP at F Side
& Conferences at IVTB

2010: Conference at Sookdeo Bissoondoyal State College

2011: Chemistry Mega Show in context of International Year of Chemistry

2012: Mega Project on IT Resources in Chemistry by Lower Secondary Students from various schools

2013: Introducing Use of Tablets in the Teaching/Learning of Science

The SRP involves lectures, lab. investigations, fieldworks, projects, assessments, revision exercises etc

Many students have progressed very remarkably while being involved in the activities of the institute. The SRP proved to be a highly successful programme.

Mr M.S.Luckhoo attended the 21st International Conference on Chemical Education organised by the International Union for Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) in 2008.

Mr M.S.Luckhoo is also the coordinator for the Young Ambassador for Chemistry Programme in Mauritius supported by the prestigious Science Across the World Organisation (previously www.scienceacross.org).

He participated in workshops organised by the Univeristy of Mauritius

He also attended the International Conference on Chemistry in the 21st Century in 2010.

Mr M.S.Luckhoo has also delivered lectures on Chemistry & IT to Secondary School Chemistry teachers on several occasions.
